It’s been eight years since we started BuzzIt, yet not many people know the company's origin. Let me share.
BuzzIt started in 2013 when I found myself in a large lecture hall. A new student, surrounded by strangers. I wanted to get to know the other students, learn and share information with them but something held me back.
It hit me then that we’re often in group settings. Yet, the very places where we're supposed to engage and learn from one another are also where we feel most judged and least encouraged to speak or connect with others.
The irony is that we’re probably sitting next to someone with a wealth of information, yet we’re discouraged from taking that first step.
That’s when I decided that we needed a way to engage with one another. To share, learn and connect without feeling uncomfortable or insecure. In fact, I wanted to level the playing field.
My goal was for shared experiences to become the easiest place to connect. Lucky for me, one of my best friends was a programmer. We created a downloadable location-based chat app and BuzzIt v1.0 was born.
Fast forward to now. BuzzIt is a very different tool from where it was eight years ago. It’s now a user-friendly event platform, but the core purpose remains the same: making shared experiences the easiest place to connect.
